FALL 2009 FASHION WEEK - Backstage Beauty at Anna Sui - Garren for L'Oreal |
HAIR: Garren for L'OrealBEAUTY SNAPSHOT: Garren, who has styled the hair of everyone from Madonna to Nicole Kidman, even Audrey Hepburn, wanted to create a couple of looks for the Anna Sui show. He wanted it to be "rocker" but natural, because with the ornate clothes, flashy hats, feathers, and tiaras of the Anna Sui runway, if the hair were "too right, it would become a period piece." THE SCOOP: Garren dampened, conditioned with volumizing conditioner, and rinsed each model's hair, and then allowed it to air dry. Then, with his hands and a leave-in tonic, he styled the models with short hair into boyish, chunky-in-the-front looks, and put middle parts on the models with longer hair. The models with natural waves (like the above) got finger-teased "like something she could have done on her own," and the straight haired models were flat-ironed to give their hair more dimension. GET THE LOOK: To get this look, you can use L'Oreal Nature's Therapy Scalp Relief Leave-In Tonic and L'Oreal Vive Conditioner Volume-Infusing for Unmanageable Normal Hair. Backstage at Anna Sui |
Despite Cindy Crawford’s jewelry collection for JCPenney being shown throughout the room, Crawford was wearing earrings by another designer.
“Believe it or not I don’t have any yet,” the supermodel, who was wearing a Fendi dress and Kimberly McDonald earrings, told StyleList.
“Can you believe it? They were supposed to send me one of everything, but they’re still at sample stage, so I don’t have anything.” She added, “I should go raid the displays.”
Crawford joined JCPenney and its other VIP designers, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Charlotte Ronson, Michele Bohbot and Nicole Miller, to celebrate the retailer’s spring season Tuesday night at New York’s Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City.
The company previewed commercials that will air during the Oscars, including one for Crawford’s home line. “And those are really my kids,” the beauty said of the ad which features her young ones.
There was also one for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s Olsenboye collection. The twins weren’t speaking to the media, but they did introduce their commercial, oddly from a darkened spot on the stage.
“We’re so happy that Olsenboye found a home. Thanks to Liz Sweeney [the president of women's apparel] and the entire JCPenney team, ” they said.
The fashion show that followed featured the top trends for spring — sparkle, animal prints, floral prints, bold jewelry and so on — all done the JCPenney way.
And check out Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s high-end line, The Row, featured in the new Barneys New York Catalog.
